The 3-K program in New York City is free, full-day, and high-quality. Every school district has a 3-K program, and the DOE tries to place students close to their homes based on seat availability.

What is 3K?
3-K for All brings free, full-day, high-quality early education in a school setting, daycare or a center based. The 3k follows a curriculum which is called "The Creative Curriculum" It's a play-based curriculum that encourages children to explore materials and learn together with their families and teachers.
The curriculum includes:

Routines and community: Activities that start with routines and help children learn about the classroom community

Abstract ideas: As the year progresses, children learn more abstract ideas

Centers: Children spend a large part of the day in work areas, such as the art center, library, and water and sand tables

Outdoor play: Children play outside as part of their daily routine

Meals and snacks: Children eat lunch and snacks as part of their daily routine

Naps: Children take naps as part of their daily routine
